At one time or another, we all face a sense of meaninglessness, some of us on a daily basis. There are an infinite number of ways to defend ourselves against it, some of which are culturally sanctioned: parenting, romantic love, friendship, careers.

However, some of the more prevalent, quotidian tactics are often criticized as questionable solutions to meaninglessness. They are seen as obsessions or addictions that waste our time.

I explore the emotional and existential significance of participating in mediated culture, from television watching to gaming to flipping through magazines. Using strategies of accumulation, collection, appropriation and juxtaposition, I reveal the collective and personal spaces where fine art and mass-media culture overlap.

Whether looking at art in a gallery or watching the season finale of a favorite show, we are cultural participants. We are producers, as well as consumers, champions as well as critics.
